Parkzicht helped shape Rotterdam’s early sound. At Amsterdam’s Multigroove warehouse parties, ravers, punks and skaters met on the same floor. Put the footage beside a recent set: listen for what changed, and look at what people still recognise in each other.

Dark nights.
Bright kicks.

This week: Saturday, 31 October is Halloween. Cue three tracks: a dark favourite, an unfamiliar discovery and a melody that sounds suspiciously cheerful among the rumble.

A little kick arithmetic: at 200 BPM, one beat lasts 0.3 seconds. Four bars of four beats? Just 4.8 seconds. Enough time to think: “I need that kick again.”

Listening game: pick two tracks at roughly the same playback volume. Follow only the kick first, then the melody. Which combination stays with you? Heavy and melodic can work together; your ears decide.

Looking ahead — playful speculation: somewhere this weekend, a spooky intro will outshine a pumpkin. Or an unexpectedly cheerful melody will. No crystal ball required to give both a chance.

Johnny Napalm.
Gone up in smoke.
Still in the system.

Johnny, this is a very loud postcard from the dancefloor. Your mixes deserve fresh ears, your name deserves another trip around the group chat, and somewhere a perfectly innocent pair of nipples is about to discover Frenchcore.

Where did you disappear to, Mr Napalm? The old sets are still here, doing their best to turn an ordinary afternoon into a deeply impractical one. There is room for another. Consider this your place on the wall.

Nipples at attention.

Van Frenchcore Krijg Je Harde Tepels. Johnny put it right there in the title. Part three is still in the archive, complete with its tracklist. Your T-shirt has been warned.

That title belongs on a terrible embroidered cushion. Next to it: a good pair of speakers and a very bad excuse for staying home. Take the set for a spin; let your nipples file their own review.

The Harde Tepels set and tracklist

He earned the closing slot.

His artist biography starts with bedroom DJing in 2010, bookings in 2011 and Megarave Germany in 2012. It also credits closing sets at his first Dominator appearance and the twentieth-anniversary Masters of Hardcore. A bedroom hobby grew some fairly enormous speakers.

The last slot asks something of a DJ. People have given the dancefloor their day, their night and most of their remaining coordination. You get the final chance to send them home with something worth remembering. That is a place in the story worth keeping.

Artist biography

The person beside the decks.

One fan’s 2016 Partyflock memory praises both the dancing and the time he made for a chat, a photograph or a drink. That is a lovely thing to leave behind: someone remembering that the DJ made time for them.

So here is a little appreciation with the bass turned up. For the sets that travelled further than the party. For a sense of humour ridiculous enough to survive on an old mix title. For being a name somebody still wants to pass on.

The old fan memories

Whenever you feel like it, Johnny.

An hour from the bedroom. A new track. An old tape rescued from a hard drive. If you ever feel like putting something out again, this corner of the record bag would love to hear it. A comeback can begin with pressing play.

Until then, the Dominator podcast is right below. Play it. Send a mate the link with Johnny’s name attached. Mr Napalm, a salute from Songhub: good vibes, a deeply unqualified nipple inspection, and a proper thank you for the music.

Eight main editions, from the 2012 farewell to the announced 2026 weekender. Choose a year; the gatherings and interruptions in between have their own place below.

2012: the final exam was not the final word.

Twenty years of Thunderdome led to The Final Exam at Amsterdam’s RAI on 15 December. It was presented as the farewell. For the people taking those records home, the music still had somewhere to go. The main party disappeared from the calendar; the fans kept meeting, collecting and dancing.

2017: the wizard had company again.

Five years after the farewell, Thunderdome returned to the Jaarbeurs on 28 October for its 25th anniversary. The gap had not erased the audience. Old records, shirts and friendships came back through the doors alongside people making their first Thunderdome memories.

2019: an ode, with a new anthem.

2022: thirty years, after another year of waiting.

The December 2021 party was postponed under coronavirus restrictions. Its tickets remained valid for 10 December 2022, when the Jaarbeurs hosted thirty years of Thunderdome. Keep that missing year in the story: a 2021 compilation exists, but the planned main party did not take place that December.

2023: Xtreme Audio in the Jaarbeurs.

On 9 December, Xtreme Audio kept Thunderdome in Utrecht. Mad Dog made the anthem of the same name, released in both regular and downtempo versions. Listen to the two approaches before moving on to 2024: the record changes its weight, and the next edition changes the room.

2024: two nights, a moving ceiling.

Thunderdome filled Antwerp’s Sportpaleis on 13 and 14 December. OMEGA looked back to early hardcore on Friday; ALPHA looked ahead on Saturday. The visuals had a physical trick: LED panels moved up and down above the crowd, alongside a separate screen shaped like the Thunderdome emblem. You were dancing underneath the show as well as in front of it.

2025: those CD covers became the scenery.

On 13 December, Thunderdome returned to the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht. Nosferatu & Tha Playah supplied the anthem, Move As One. Across the venue, familiar CD-cover artwork appeared on illuminated fabric and printed scenery. The pictures that once sat beside your stereo had grown large enough to stand under. Print partner CB Print shows how it was made.

Each night has its own anthem: Unexist & Art of Fighters made ORDER, Catscan & Starving Insect made CHAOS. Both are on Thunderdome’s music page. Play them, compare them, then follow the organiser’s programme for the night you want.

What were fans saying before the event?

Before the event, the September line-up discussion singled out Drokz’s gabber set and Menace II Society for enthusiastic replies. Other fans debated the mix of styles. A useful question to take into the programme: which set would pull you away from your mates for an hour?

Legends and their records.

Artist facts and announcements from the sources as checked on 28 October 2026. Follow the organiser for event details.

Neophyte

The catalogue keeps answering back.

On 28 October 2026, Neophyte Records featured Recession (Angerfist Remix) and the Neophyte & Panic collaboration Anthem of Power. The label dates its own story to 1999.

By 28 October 2026, Neophyte was announced for CHAOS on 12 December 2026.

Catscan × Starving Insect

A new anthem with teeth.

Their CHAOS anthem is the Saturday counterpart to ORDER. The organiser’s October update brings both anthems together on one vinyl, with EPACOT and THUNDERDOOM completing the track list.

Thunderdome’s music page lists both anthems and the four-track release.

DA MOUTH OF MADNESS / LEGEND

Sietse.
Legend at the microphone.

Before the shout.

The name on the flyer is Da Mouth of Madness. The person behind it is Sietse van Daalen. His artist biography traces the route back to hip-hop crew II Damn Dope with DJ Uzi, before hardcore became their next language. Their first Thunderdome appearance together followed in 1995. That is a useful place to begin: with two people making something happen, long before a familiar voice could carry decades of recognition into a room.

Beyond the stage.

That voice travelled beyond the stage. His own biography places him on TMF Hakkeeh in 1997–98 and on Thunderdome Radio, first at ID&T Radio in 2003–05 and later online from 2006 to 2013. Television, radio, a packed floor: different ways to bring hardcore to people. A night ends; a broadcast reaches someone at home. The connection does not need to happen in the same place for the music to become part of somebody’s life.

The next record.

Old Dog New Trixx takes the microphone onto an album of his own. For another route into the music, his artist site points to Bodybag with Angerfist. Hear what happens when that familiar voice meets the kick. There is another date ahead, too: as checked on 28 October 2026, he was announced to host both Thunderdome nights on 11 and 12 December 2026. That is an announced booking, with the organiser’s details linked below.

Dano

Dano was playing on Amsterdam pirate radio in 1984. A night dancing at the Roxy drew him into acid house; his Acid Explosion radio show and Mazzo residency followed.

Gizmo

The Dreamteam’s group biography remembers Gizmo as its breakbeat specialist. Alongside Dano’s acid, The Prophet’s melodies and Buzz Fuzz’s harder selections, his broken rhythms gave the four another direction.

The man, the name, the myth, the legend, the memory.

3 Steps Ahead began as a project involving Peter-Paul Pigmans, Rob Fabrie and Ed Bout before Pigmans carried the name forward. He died in 2003. This is a present-day tribute to his lasting place in hardcore.

In a December 2025 fan thread, people describe meeting other fans through 3 Steps Ahead shirts and sharing memories of his records. That sense of recognition is what this corner honours.

BETWEEN THE RECORDS

After the final night.

Losing a room changes a scene. Multigroove’s Elementenstraat parties were shut down in 1993; smaller nights and the Hemkade followed. Thunderdome said farewell in 2012, then returned in 2017. The years between mattered too: people kept the records, organised nights and found each other elsewhere.

A hope for the next decade is more room for smaller nights, unfamiliar producers and the friend who has never heard that old record. An archive can bring people back together. A new track gives them something else to talk about on the way home.
